1. Purpose of the book
While yoga has been misunderstood that it is only of use for losing weight and good appearance over the past years, it has increasingly come to light that yoga is also a comprehensive training system embracing meditation.
Also, the public perception of true yoga has heightened it is not only for self-satisfaction with spiritual awakening by oneself but for the life along with others through giving and sharing as shown in the life of all the spiritual leaders including Buddha and Jesus.
Seungyong Lee, the writer who has done his important part in such perception change, wrote an essay book on yoga and meditation demonstrating his consistent life with a slogan of \"Yoga is a philosophy as well as science of life\"
This book represents not only the author\'s personal episodes but also his life as a disciplinant with a subject of \'Practice within daily lives\'. Through the writer\'s life story, philosophy and practice experiences over the past 20 years, the readers should find the clue to practice within their lives regardless of their gender, age and religion.
2. Preface for <Yoga and Nature, My Life> English Version
This book was published in 2007 November in Korea, which was for an affectionate suggestion from a Buddhist priest. The priest had already published several books then on his practice in Korea and made substantial contributions for popularization of Buddhism, hosting a radio broadcast.
One day, he and I talked about this and that and I came to tell him why I started yoga practice with interests in issues of life and death and what I had experienced while visiting many countries around the world and practicing yoga. After listening to my stories, he asked back.
\"Why did you not write those good stories in a book? If I were you, I would have made several of them already. Moreover, Mr. Lee has such abundant and various spiritual experiences in practice beyond a religion with humane experience overcoming challenging health problems not as a monk but an ordinary person. It would be a good stimulus and precedent to many people who find \'practice in everyday life\' only difficult if you let them know those experiences. Why don\'t you write them down in a book?\"
Until then, I had never thought of writing a book with my very personal things but I started to think differently after that. If my experiences would be of a little help to those who are with difficult health problems, find yoga difficult and feel a thirst for spiritual issues, it would be to perform my mission just a bit in this world. Thus, this book came out to the world 7 years ago.
Couple of years ago, however, one of my foreign students who could speak and read Korean suggested translation for this book into English, saying that it would be very fresh to Westerners among other lots of books on yoga around the world and it would also be a good source to introduce and make them understand the diversity of yoga in Korea. Upon hearing that suggestion, I came to have hopes and expectations that what had been missed due to lack of smooth communication with foreign students could be made up for.
After all these stories, the book is published in English and ready to meet English-speaking readers. I hope this book would be helpful for readers around the world who are interested in yoga and meditation, natural health and life with practice. Lastly, I appreciate everyone sparing no efforts for publishing the book.
